I started photography in the 7th grade with a camera my grandfather bought for me. The first roll of film I actually put in the camera backwards. Once I got that straightened out, it’s been smooth sailing ever since!
In all seriousness, the thing I am always seeking to find is the simplicity. I am known mostly for commercial work, but by far my favorite aspect of shooting is the people I get to work with. The better the connection with the subject, the more we uncover the truth. Every shot becomes about a central, powerful idea.
I’m originally from Des Moines, IA, but have been living in NYC for 15 years. I work mostly in advertising, but also shoot actors on the side. These days the work is mostly digital, but I actually still have the old camera my grandfather bought me. And I even remember which way to put the film in.
